The Grand Tour of Skiddaw
Unfortunately, The Grand Tour of Skiddaw 2020 is now cancelled. I did hope, although in honesty with some doubts, that the Covid-19 situation might have improved sufficiently to allow the event to take place on 29th August, but this just isn’t the case.
For a number of reasons I wouldn’t be able to stage the event as I would like, so have decided to cancel.
I realise that this isn’t what you all wanted to hear, and no one can be more disappointed than I am; having to cancel event after event is very disheartening, but we’ll get through this and get back to competing on the trails we love again soon.
All entrants have been emailed via SIEntries with the transfer/refund options available, please check your inboxes before messaging me.
The Grand Virtual Tour of Skiddaw will open for entries soon – join us to cover the 44 mile event distance over a maximum of 10 days, choosing either the Oner (single, continuous run) or Checkpoint (break the distance down to the distance between the 5 CP’s) options. More details to follow.
Keep fit, healthy and safe…
The Grand Tour of Skiddaw is an approximately 44 mile fully waymarked ultra trail race taking in the beautiful Northern Lake District with a climb up the mighty Skiddaw at the approximate halfway point, giving a total of 7136 feet of ascent. The route is almost entirely run on public footpaths and bridleways, starting and finishing at Lime House School near Dalston. It then follows the River Caldew, winding through fields and woods until you reach Caldbeck. From here, the scenery changes to the stunning and remote feeling Caldbeck Fells, where you make your way past Skiddaw House to the car park at Latrigg. The climb up Skiddaw follows, after visiting the summit you descend via Longside Edge giving fantastic views over Bassenthwaite. Then you contour round passing through Orthwaite, Branthwaite and Fell Side before the route brings you back to Caldbeck and the return journey to Lime House School along the banks of the River Caldew.
The Grand Tour of Skiddaw is a qualifying race for Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc®, giving 3 points.
